Ununiversalizable Us

lyrics

I have to say something I need to get off my chest.
I've gotta do something that makes me feel weird.
My brain is constantly looking for a way out.
It thinks it's looking out for me.
I haven't done a good job standing up to it.
And it's getting harder all the time.

But sometimes I remember how it feels.
How it feels to actually do something real.
And to genuinely know what I should do.
And make sure I put myself to good use.

That everyone's not like me is definitely a good thing.
I suppose you could say that of everyone.
Does that mean we all fail Kant's imperative?
We can't be universalized.
But at least today I can say I got something done.
And I just might do the same tomorrow.

But sometimes I remember how it feels.
How it feels to actually do something real.
And to genuinely know what I should do.
And make sure I put myself to good use.
